NMT is a highly effective technique for clients presenting with pain and injury, both chronic and acute. Static pressure is used to release trigger points, painful “knots” in muscle or tendons which may refer pain to other areas of the body. NMT works on the muscles, tendons, connective tissues, involved in your specific pain pattern or injury.
Neuromuscular Therapy will be used to address five elements that cause pain:
Ischemia: Lack of blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch
Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body
Nerve Compression or Entrapment: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone
Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes
Biomechanical Dysfunction: Imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns (i.e., poor computer habits, bad mechanics in a tennis or golf swing, poor lifting posture)
A relaxing technique utilizing long, gliding strokes to ease sore muscles, improve circulation and relieve tension. It can be meditative and leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper layers of muscle and fascia. It uses many of the same techniques as Swedish massage but with a deeper, slower, pressure. Deep tissue helps to release chronic muscle tension, adhesions, and can break up scar tissue.
Sports massage incorporates many different massage techniques specifically designed to aid in athletic performance. Each session is specific to your sport. Techniques vary depending on if the massage session is pre-event, post-event, maintenance, or injury massage.
